Update on Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research July 2023
Construction Construction
of Australia’s first proton therapy centre, the Australian Bragg Centre for
Proton Therapy and Research, continues to run to schedule, with building
practical completion (PC) set for September 2023. Installation of the ProTom
International Radiance 330 proton therapy system will commence after PC.
National
Particle Therapy Registry A condition
of public funding for proton therapy treatments in Australia is the
establishment of a national proton therapy clinical quality registry. The
ASPIRE registry commenced patient recruitment in 2022 at the Royal Adelaide
Hospital with patients who will be eligible for proton therapy in the future,
but who are currently receiving conventional X-ray therapy. Expansion of ASPIRE
to major national Australian hospitals is currently in progress.
